Professor Byungdo Park of Konkuk University stresses that climate change is not just an environmental issue; it is deeply intertwined with human rights. He warns that “climate change has already begun to violate basic human rights protected under international law, and this trend is going to accelerate.” Professor Park points out the issues of injustice and inequality, noting that the communities least responsible for global warming are experiencing the greatest negative impacts. Professor Park also argues that “from the perspective of climate justice, we need to ensure that the people and communities most affected by climate change can participate in shaping and implementing climate-related laws and policies, based on the essential human rights principles of equity and non-discrimination.”

Professor Byungdo Park, who teaches at Konkuk University Law School, is an expert in maritime and international law.
