The Critical Island Studies Consortium (CIS) is an academic network dedicated to critically examining prevailing modes of knowledge production centered around the Northern Hemisphere and exploring new knowledge paradigms focused on islands and oceans. Drawing on archipelagic thoughts and a planetary perspective, the consortium seeks to develop new understandings of the environment and nature. It also advances critical island studies as an interdisciplinary field encompassing geography, anthropology, sociology, political science, and related disciplines.
