Universal Design for Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Development

This HK3.0 Global Research Programme highlights universal design as a key strategy for inclusive and sustainable urban development. Taking universal design as its central framework, the programme seeks to reconsider urban environments through the experiences of diverse users, including older adults, persons with disabilities, and socially vulnerable groups.

Drawing on participatory design and community-based approaches, the programme examines spatial and communicative barriers embedded in urban spaces and explores practical possibilities for overcoming them. It also considers, through case-based discussions, how inclusive design can be applied to real urban environments, and how functionality, social inclusion, and inspiring environments can be realised together.
