
The KU Academy of Mobility Humanities HK+ Mobility Humanities Institute published the first Mobility Humanities, an international academic journal in English, in January 2022.
Mobility Humanities, published by the KU Academy of Mobility Humanities, is the first international academic journal in English in the mobility humanities area. It covers interdisciplinary discussions on various phenomenon, technologies and infrastructure of mobility and humanities topics such as philosophy, literature, culture, communication, geography, history and society.
Shin Inseop, director of the HK+ Mobility Humanities Institute, served as editor in chief and world-renowned scholars who are leading the research in mobility including Professor Mimi Sheller (Worcester Polytechnic Institute, US), Professor Tim Cresswell (University of Edinburgh, UK), Professor Lynne Pearce (Lancaster University, UK) and Professor David Bissell (University of Melbourne, Australia) participated as editors.
The first issue includes a total of 9 journals including 6 special journals such as “What Is the Philosophy of Movement?” by Thomas Nile (University of Denver), “Mobilities at The End: (Inter)-Planetary Futures and the Ethics of Evacuation Mobility” by Peter Adey (Royal Holloway, University of London, UK), “Migratory Aesthetics in Diasporic Claustrophobia” by Maria Luisa Torres Reyes (University of Santo Thomas, the Philippines), ”The Paradox of Mobility Technology Usage” by Noel B. Salazar (Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium) and“La Marcha Del Boticario: Philippine Soundscapes in the Late Nineteenth Century” by Ramon Guillermo under the theme of Life, Thinking, and Culture in the High-Mobility Era. It also includes 2 general journals and 1 academic book review and a special interview with Professor Mimi Sheller under the theme of Mobility Justice.
Shin Inseop, director of the HK+ Mobility Humanities Institute, said: “The publication of Mobility Humanities, an international academic journal in English, is meaningful in that it expands and shifts the scope and focus of mobility paradigm research led by Europe and northern hemisphere to Asia and the southern hemisphere.” He added: “It will contribute to making mobility humanities more popular and universal by sharing the research outcome for free with people around the world through ‘open access’.”
Mobility Humanities is an open access journal that contributes to the protection of copyrights of researchers. It comprises a universal sharing of knowledge and is published two times a year online (January, July). The journals included in this first issue are free to download and can be accessed on the Mobility Humanities website (http://journal-mobilityhumanities.com/).
