In the HK+ Global Research Programme, Jessica Frazao, a Ph.D. candidate in the Tourism Department at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, presented “Gender Gap in Aviation from the Mobility Humanities Perspective.” Frazao examined the historical and cultural background of gender inequality in the aviation industry from the perspectives of aviation mobility and gender studies. Specifically, she discussed ways to overcome the male-centric gender stereotypes associated with pilots.
Jessica Frazao, who brings both research expertise in studying the aviation industry from a mobility perspective and practical experience from various airlines, has papers, including “Dynamic Pricing and Market Segmentation Responses to Low-cost Carrier Entry” and “The Effect of Income Inequality on Air Passenger Demand: An Econometric Model for Brazilian Domestic Marker.”
This programme gave us chances to contemplate the role of mobility humanities in dismantling entrenched gender biases within the mobility field, including the aviation industry.
