Transnational Networks and (Im)mobile Communities

The conference consisted of two parts: the first, titled “Transnational Hallyu Networks from a Mobility Perspective,” and the second, “Global Immigrant Networks and Community Ethics.”

In the first part, Professor Sunah Lee (Dankook University) explained the cultural mobility flows between Korea and Mongolia in conjunction with myth, culture, and folklore from ancient times to the present. Additionally, Professor Youngen Park (Incheon University) analysed the Hallyu in the Middle East and discussed the possibility of sustaining and expanding Hallyu through transnational strategies and relational consumption in the Middle East.

In the second part, Professor Kyunghak Kim (Chonnam National University) presented research about the labour and health of migrant workers who return to Sri Lanka. Professor Junseong Han (Gangneung-Wonju National University) reflected on the “Comprehensive Plan of Action,” a successful example of international cooperation in the past, that addresses the current global refugee crisis.
