
On November 6, 2020, the Academy of Mobility Humanities (Director In-Seop Shin), in collaboration with the Center for Asia & Diaspora, held a conference at Konkuk University New Millennium Hall #1106 (online via ZOOM), where renowned diaspora research scholars in Korea presented their works under the theme of “Diaspora and Reorganizing Mobile Space.”
In this conference, Gijae Seo (Konkuk Univ.) and Taehee Kim (Konkuk Univ.) served as moderators; and domestic diaspora and mobility humanities related scholars including Jin Suk Bae (Academy of Mobility Humanities)・Jaegi Kim (Chonnam National Univ.), Soojung Kim (Chonnam National Univ.), Byung-Chul Cho (Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts), and Youngeon Yim(Hanman Univ.) participated as presenters. Also, Taejin Kim (Sahmyook Health Univ.), Heeyong Lee (Yonhap News Agency), Hyun-Seung Yuk(Korea Univ.), and Yeon-Hee Woo (Konkuk Univ.) participated as discussants.
Conference presentations addressed issues related to today’s global diaspora phenomenon resulting from the interrelationship between diaspora mobility, mobile networks, and mass media. Discussions took place on the meaning and values related to persons ascribing to diaspora communities.
