Agenda
Our research subject is centered on the term, mobility humanities, which represents our efforts to bridge the gap between mobilities studies and humanities in understanding new realities of mobilities. There are also several research objectives in conducting our research agendas in mobility humanities.
Mobility Humanities refers to the movement of people, objects, and ideas as a condition and consequence of the development of mobility technologies such as trains to mobile devices. Thinking about movements through the co-evolution and co-determination of humans and technology, MHI attempts to study the shifting social reorganization of mobility, which include the transformation of mobility and ideas, the transformation of mobility and life world, and the transformation of mobility and textuality. We propose the notion of ‘mobility humanities’ as a new mode of analysis both to think through past viewpoints on cultures, identities, and migration and to critically examine new potentialities of movements as humans, with the use of technologies, have become increasingly mobile.
01. To develop alternative approaches to relationships between humanity, technologies, cultures from a humanities perspective.
02. To approach mobility humanities issues from inter-disciplinary perspectives
03. To develop full graduate courses on mobility humanities. Drawing on our intellectual expertise, courses will be delivered in multiple languages including English, Japanese, and Korean.
04. For MHI to become a global research platform for mobility humanities studies where innovation and inter-disciplinary work attracts scholars from around the world for the purposes of knowledge production, exchange and transfer.
