The 2022 Global Mobility Humanities Conference “Mobility, Infrastructure, and Humanities,” was successfully held at the Ugok International Conference Hall of Konkuk University between Oct.28-29. This conference, which was held offline for the first time in the three years, has established itself as an international research network. It has accumulated more than 100 mobility researchers from 15countries aronund the world who study disciplines such as philosophy, literature, culture, sociology, anthropology, anthropology, and geography.
The 2022 Global Mobility Humanities Conference was cohosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea, researchers of Mobility Humanities, UKRI (UK Research and Innovation), the Centre for the GeoHumanities of Royal Holloway, the Univesity of London, and the Centre for Advanced Studies in Mobility & Humananities of the University of Padova in Italy.
Starting with the opening speech of Shin In-Seop, head of the Mobility Humanities, the conference comp
rised a congratulatory speech by the KonKuk University President, Jeon Young-Jae, a gretting from a co-host,a keynote lecture by a global mobility researcher, and 13 sessions. On the first day, Professor Tim Cresswell University of Edinburgh, U.K gave a presentation on the politics of routes. On the second day, Professor Tina Harris(University of Amsterdam, Netherlands) presented the change in life as infrastructure changes.
The 13 presentation sessions, which took place over the two days, included researchers from the Asia Mobility Humanities Network, researchers from the UKRI project, which began in February, and mobility researchers from Europe, the United States, Australia, and Asia.
In particular, researchers such as Professor Mimi Sheller (Worcester Polytechnic Institute, U.S.),author of Mobility Justice, Professor Peter Merriman (Aberystwyth University, U.K.), author of Space, Professor Noel Salazar (KU Leuven, Belgium), author of Momentous Mobilities, Professor Peter Adey (Royal Holloway, University of London, UK), author of Mobility, Professor David Bissell (University of Melbourne, Australia), author of Transit Life, and Professor Weiqiang Lin (National University of Singapore), author of Low-Cost Aviation led the presentation and discussion with various topics and perspectives.

Shin In-Seop, head of the Mobility Humanities, said, “This conference was a place where mobility
researchers from all over the world gathered together to review mobility infrastructure interdisciplinary”. She added: “The Global Mobility Humanities Conference will continue to contribute to deepen
and expand mobility research as a research hub in Western and Asia.”
GMHC is Asia’s only global academic conference in mobility humanities and has been held annually since 2019 by the Mobility Humanities (excluding 2020 due to COVID-19). In October 2023 KonKuk University will hold a global conference in collaboration with the world’s largest mobility research academy, “T2M(International Association for History of Transport, Traffic & Mobility),” under the theme of “Mobilities, Aesthetics, and Ethics.”
